Modern invented combination of Mae (pearl or month of May) and Bri.
Maebri is a spirited modern fusion of two powerfully mythological roots. Mae traces to Maia, the eldest of the Pleiades in Greek mythology — a daughter of Atlas and Pleione who became mother to Hermes, the fleet-footed messenger of the gods. The Romans honored Maia as a goddess of spring growth and fertility, dedicating the month of May to her.
Across the centuries, Mae acquired an independent warmth: Mae West, the Brooklyn-born actress and wit, made it an icon of irreverence and glamour in the 1930s, while Mae C. Jemison carried it into the cosmos as the first Black woman to travel in space. Bri connects the name to the ancient Celtic tradition of Brigid — the Irish goddess of fire, poetry, healing, and craft who became Saint Brigid of Kildare, one of Ireland's three patron saints.
From Brigid came Bride, Brid, and eventually the modern Brianna and Bri. The name Brigid belonged to Ireland's most beloved holy woman, whose feast day on February 1st overlaps with the old festival of Imbolc, marking winter's end. Maebri thus holds both a Greek sky goddess and a Celtic fire goddess in its two syllables — spring growth meeting creative flame. For parents drawn to mythology without wanting a name that announces itself too loudly, Maebri offers a quietly layered choice.
